Light The WorldIn the Book of Mormon, King Benjamin in his timeless sermon, taught the people, “And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 2:17). The Lord is not impressed by a person who is a braggart or a self-centered egomaniac, but He is well-pleased with those who have a servant’s heart and are willing to help their fellow man along their journey.

This life is not meant to be spent focusing on ourselves, but rather our focus and attention, and indeed our greatest blessings in this life, come from serving others. If we proclaim to be Christians and say that we are striving to emulate the Savior in our daily walk, then we must also understand that the Christian life brings with it the duty and the privilege of a lifetime of service.

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, did not come to be served, but rather His mission was to be about His Father’s business by being a servant to others. His entire ministry – from raising the dead, to healing the lame, to opening the eyes of the blind and the ears of the death, to His intercessory prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, to giving His life as a ransom for many while hanging upon a cruel Roman cross on Golgotha’s lonely hill – was centered on others.

As we follow His example, we can help #LightTheWorld. Every opportunity that we have to be of service to others should be a reminder to us that Our Heavenly Father often allows us to be the answer to another person’s prayers. As we serve others we should also be reminded of the words of the Savior Himself. Said He, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

Instead of our usual “Video Find of the Week” post, we have created a YouTube playlist of music videos by various LDS music artists to help remind all of us about the real reason we celebrate this season. As we focus on the true meaning of Christmas, may we turn our hearts towards those in need and do our part in helping to #LightTheWorld.
