Although Amber Lynn and James Dawson did not progress further on American Idol, it does not mean that they are not super talented and still pursuing their love and passion for music! Amber has had multiple music videos come out lately, a few of them featuring her best friend James, who went through the short lived American Idol journey with her.

One of their recent videos together that received a lot of positive attention is a mashup of two songs that are both named “Gravity.” The two “Gravity” songs are both very popular today, even though they were recorded a while back. I myself love these two songs individually, and the mashing of them together is absolutely brilliant and beautiful!!

Amber Lynn and James DawsonOne of the songs, being “Gravity” by world-renowned and loved music artist John Mayer, has the message of gravity working against him to bring him down. The lyrics are very brief and simple, but obviously had a huge impact on John Mayer, and on many who have heard and love the song.

John Mayer spoke about his song Gravity in an interview in 2005, soon after his album Continuum came out. “This is the most important song I’ve ever written, it’s a time capsule song. I will listen to it every day of my life if I need to. It’s honest to God the most important song I’ve ever written in my life, and it has the fewest words. I was in L.A., and I was there for the summer, just writing tunes, and I was in the shower. And I don’t know where it came from, but it’s the darn truth you know, and I just sang, ‘gravity… is working against me.’”

The other song in the mashup is “Gravity,” written by Sara Bareilles. This song was released in an album with a number of other songs about Sara’s personal life and struggles, which she composed into music. The piano and her voice combined make this piece very emotional, as well as breathtaking. It sends the message of a girl who loves a man, but knows that he isn’t good for her. Despite her knowing this, she cannot leave. Her feelings for him are simply too strong, and gravity keeps pulling her back towards him. It shows how powerful and all consuming love can be.

These two songs both portray a message about life, the struggles that everyone faces, and the symbolic and literal meaning of gravity pulling people down. The combination of these songs, not only because of their melodic similarities, but also the lyric meanings, makes for a very emotionally touching song, in which Amber and James were perfect for. Their unique voices combined cannot help but pull you in and make you want to hear more.

Amber and JamesThe video of their Gravity mashup was posted on YouTube and was immediately noticed, ending up with over 12,000 hits. People all over responded optimistically and almost everyone told them they wanted to see and hear more!!

One comment says, “Wow wait, I mean WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS! I just caught wind of you guys on AI’s YouTube video- let’s see, less than 2 hours ago. I am now 1 hour and 15 minutes late for work. I can’t pull myself away. I want YOUR music! You and James have really got something. I want it, both of you, NOW, together. I want you to come to my town and play. I want every piece of music you both do, or either of you, in my ears-a lot! I’ll buy it. I’ll go pick up a pre pay card to do it. I can’t wait to see more of you.”

This is one of many comments that show how obsessed people are with this song, and this is only one of many songs that Amber and James perform together.
