Sarah Sample, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a talented singer/songwriter who hails from Santa Barbara, California. She currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and records for Ramona Records. Her genre of music includes Folk, Americana, and Rock.
With the release of her latest album “‘Til The Morning: Lullabies & Songs of Comfort,” she is quickly shedding her up-and-comer image, and it comes as no surprise that she is rapidly making a name for herself in the music industry. As of late 2015, Sarah has released three albums, an EP, and has had major experience with touring. As stated in her official website bio, her success is attributed to “a potent mix of hard work, conviction, an uncanny and tireless ability to connect with audiences, relentless enthusiasm, a stunning voice and- most importantly- an enviable catalog of really, really great songs.”
People are listening and taking notice of her immense talent. Salt Lake City Weekly acclaimed that Sarah’s songs have lyrics that “cut to the bone”, and Peter Meyer added that her songs are gaining recognition because she has “just a great, great voice.” Her songs won her a slot on 2010’s Cayamo Cruise and the main stage at Folks Fest 2008. No matter what song she performed, she was always selected as a finalist.
Speaking of Sarah’s live performances, Marketa Irglova of The Swell Season commented, “I was inspired, so touched by her music and by her energy on stage with the band as well as with the audience. A lovely memory I will cherish.” Sarah has also had the honor and privilege of sharing the stage with artists such as Darrell Scott, Melissa Ferrick, Willy Porter, Peter Himmelman, Mark Stuart/Stacey Earle, Edie Carey, and more. Some of the artists who have influenced her career include: Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Josh Ritter, Paul Simon, The Weepies, Emmylou Harris, Ray LaMontagne, and Shawn Colvin.
For her latest album release, she collaborated with friend, and fellow mama, Edie Carey. The backstory of the album which is found on her official website reads in part:
Award winning songwriters, friends, and fellow mamas Sarah Sample and Edie Carey have gathered a mix of original, well-known and beloved, as well as a few more unexpected, tunes on this intimate, harmony-laden collection of lullabies and songs of comfort. After Sample had her second child she realized that most of her music-making at home involved singing to her children, so it felt only natural that her next record would likely be a lullaby album.
This partnership led to the desire to honor the quiet moments between parent and child, but to also acknowledge the struggle of infertility and the sometimes circuitous and painful road many people travel to become parents. These are also songs of comfort and solace for anyone, regardless of what phase of life through which one might be passing.
Sarah and Edie are proud to support RESOLVE, the National Infertility Association which is a non-profit, charitable organization that works to improve the lives of women and men living with infertility, by giving a charitable contribution.
