Grammy-nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker is known as “America’s Violinist.” Starting at the age of 4 years old, Jenny learned to love playing her violin. By the time she was only eight years old, she had made her orchestral debut. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, she obtained a master’s degree in music from the renowned Juilliard School in New York City. Jenny is the daughter of Elder Dallin H. Oaks, who is a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the late June Oaks, who passed away in 1998.
Performing at grand venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, Strathmore Hall, and the Library of Congress, Jenny has performed as a soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Utah Symphony, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Since 1998, Jenny has released twelve albums that have sold over 250,000 copies. Her album, “Wish Upon a Star,” earned a nomination for the 54th Grammy Awards in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category. Whether she performs on stage or releases albums, her music and artistry inspire and uplifts listeners.
Jenny served as a judge for the Stradivarius International Violin Competition in 2007 because of her experience performing and her background in music education. She also received the Governor’s Mansion Artist Award from Jon M. Huntsman Jr. in 2008 for her artistry. After seven years as a first violinist in the National Symphony Orchestra, Jenny resigned in 2007 to spend more time with her husband and four children.
Because of her positive musical experiences and opportunities, Jenny encourages each of her four children to pursue at least one musical instrument. “Music is a big part of my life and my husband’s life,” Jenny said, “and I just wanted to show that to my children.”
