Brandon Flowers gained fame as the lead singer and guiding light of the band The Killers, which started out of Las Vegas. He has been very forthcoming about the evolution of his faith (Mormonism), since he struggled with the effects of rock star culture, becoming more and more committed to his faith through the years.
Born in Henderson, Nevada, and raised in Nephi, Utah, Brandon was eager to return to Nevada before his high school graduation. After moving to Las Vegas, he worked in hotels as a bellman, initially wanting to pursue a career in golf. However, after responding to an advertisement placed in a local newspaper by Dave Keuning in 2001, Brandon joined a band which soon after became known as The Killers.
After The Killers’ initial success in 2004, with their song “Mr. Brightside” topping the charts, the band continued to release Grammy nominated hits. After releasing their award-winning album Hot Fuss in 2004, they have released five albums, including their latest, Battle Born, in 2012. Performing with artists like Bruce Springsteen, U2, Coldplay, Pet Shop Boys, Lady Gaga, New Order, Bright Eyes, and many others, The Killers’ longlasting success continued through a decade. When members of the band needed a break from touring and performing in 2010, Flowers didn’t settle down.
Due to his prolific nature, Flowers launched a solo career in between breaks from The Killers, releasing Flamingo (2010) and The Desired Effect (2015). Topping the UK Albums Chart six times with his solo work and songs by the Killers, he is also a recipient of the Q Idol Award. Although he loves performing and touring as a solo artist, his loyalty is with his band, often expressing that he is ready for more Killers albums.
In 2005, Brandon married Tana Mundkowsky. With their son on the way in 2007, Brandon kicked his rock and roll habits, deciding to commit more to his faith.
Flowers lists The Beatles, David Bowie, The Cars, Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys (to whom Flowers presented the BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music) and U2 among his musical influences. As of 2015, Flowers and his wife had three sons: Ammon, Gunnar, and Henry.
